Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-approved treatment that has helped over 1 million people reduce the frequency and severity of chronic migraine. It is also used off-label for trigeminal neuralgia and temporomandibular disorder. At Dr. Bondy Headache Center, Dr. Brooklynn Bondy offers expert Botox treatments as part of a comprehensive headache management plan.
Botox is carefully injected around pain nerve fibers that are involved in headaches. Botox enters the nerve endings around where it is injected and blocks the release of chemicals involved in pain transmission. This prevents activation of pain networks in the brain. Additionally, it weakens the muscles where injected, resulting in decreased muscle tension. This can lead to favorable cosmetic results, particularly with the softening of the forehead and glabellar lines.
Botox is a preventive treatment that reduces headaches before they start, but results take time. Benefits build gradually with each treatment cycle, with many patients experiencing significant relief by the second or third round.
Dr. Bondy is a Mayo Clinic fellowship-trained headache specialist with advanced expertise in Botox for headache disorders. She has also completed additional training in cosmetic applications of Botox, ensuring both effective relief and refined results.
