Precise Pain Control for
Nerve-Related Discomfort

Peripheral nerve blocks deliver targeted relief by interrupting pain signals from specific nerves, helping reduce chronic or acute nerve-related pain and restore comfort.

Targeted Injections That
Calm Overactive Nerves

Peripheral nerve blocks are targeted injections of a local anesthetic—sometimes combined steroid—around specific superficial nerves of the head and neck that are involved in headache pain. By calming the overactive pain signals carried by these nerves, nerve blocks can provide rapid relief for acute headaches or reduce the frequency and severity of ongoing headache conditions.

At Dr. Bondy Headache Center, nerve blocks are performed in a comfortable office setting using small, fine needles to maximize comfort. The procedure is quick, well-tolerated. Typically, the anesthetic, ropivacaine, is used. In cases of pregnancy, lidocaine is used as there is more safety evidence with lidocaine in this patient group. If a patient has an allergy, a different anesthetic can be ordered in advance. Many patients experience immediate improvement, while others may notice a gradual reduction in symptoms over the days following treatment.

Who can Benefit?

Peripheral nerve blocks can be especially helpful for conditions such as migraine, cluster headache, occipital neuralgia, cervicogenic headache, and other headache syndromes where the nerves around the scalp, temples, or forehead are contributing to pain.
